On June 14, Caitlin Gallagher attended the United State of Women Summit in Washington, DC where she heard from trailblazers including First Lady Michelle Obama, Gen. Lori Robinson, Oprah and many others.
The conference kicked off with an emotional speech from Vice President Biden focusing on violence the It’s On Us Campaign of Change and empowering women to take control. As the day progressed, leaders focused on the following six pillars: Economic Empowerment, Health & Wellness, Educational Opportunity, Violence Against Women, Entrepreneurship & Innovation, Leadership & Civic Engagement
Closest to the heart of our work at Powell Strategies was the focus on military women featured by Air Force General Lori Robinson (first female combatant commander), and a video prepared by Dr. Jill Biden focusing on Joining Forces. The journey of women entering the ranks of the military is the focus of an ongoing project by Therese Agnes Hughes entitled The Military Women: WWII to Present Project wherein she documents the journey with photographs and interviews.
The day was jam packed with incredible storytellers, an undying enthusiasm propelled by the crowd of 10,000 attendees from all over the world, and a healthy serving of buzz words tying together the various industries in attendance.
