John Williams started Powell Strategies with two goals in mind – do great work for organizations with worthwhile missions, and build a team of quality, goal oriented people. Three years on, Powell Strategies is enjoying significant growth, and enjoys the support of a remarkable team of professionals.
In the years before starting Powell Strategies, John spent his first career as a U.S. Marine and deployed in support of Desert Shield/Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. As a civilian, John has taught on the faculty at the U.S. Naval Academy, managed a studies and analysis program in the National Security Analysis Department at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, and was the COO at the Institute for the Study of War.
This diverse set of experiences provided the foundation for Powell Strategies’ success: technical expertise, a dedication to get the job done right, and a flexible and agile approach that creates a positive, customer-focused environment.
When not focused on providing superlative support to Powell Strategies’ clients, John can be found behind his art easel, at the helm of his boat, or working in the yard in Annapolis with his wife Rosemary and their two Labradors Samantha and Buttercup.
A 1988 graduate of the Virginia Military Institute with a BA in English Literature, John holds a MA from the Naval Postgraduate School in National Security Affairs, is a Project Management Professional (PMP©) and a Coast Guard licensed Master.
